The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is seeking an Intern for Sustainable Investment and Responsible Business to join its Sustainable Investments and Responsible Business Unit in Vienna, Austria.
The intern will contribute to initiatives related to sustainability standards, responsible business conduct, sustainable supply chains and international trade, within UNIDO’s work promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
The internship
The selected intern will support the Africa Trade Competitiveness and Market Access (ATCMA) Programme, particularly its work on voluntary sustainability standards, sustainability-driven legislation and sustainable supply chains in the ECOWAS region.
Tasks will include:
- Gathering, organizing and reviewing project information.
- Supporting analysis of regulatory and supply-chain ecosystems.
- Preparing background materials, summaries and inputs for reports.
- Supporting meetings, workshops and training activities.
- Maintaining project databases and stakeholder contact lists.
- Conducting desk research on sustainability, policy and corporate responsibility.
- Preparing briefing and reference materials.
- Supporting emerging projects related to sustainable investment and responsible business conduct.
Who can apply?
Applicants must meet one of the following academic conditions:
- Be enrolled in a Master’s degree or equivalent.
- Have completed a Master’s degree within the previous year.
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a Bachelor’s degree.
- Have completed a Bachelor’s degree within the previous year.
The relevant fields include:
- Trade and Investment Facilitation
- Development Economics
- International Affairs
Applicants must have fluency in written and spoken English.
Knowledge of French or Portuguese is considered an asset, while knowledge of another UN official language—including Spanish—is an advantage.
Previous experience in sustainability standards, corporate responsibility, or EU trade and environmental policy is highly desirable.

Stipend & conditions
UNIDO interns receive a monthly stipend based on their duty station.
