The World Health Organization (WHO) is inviting expressions of interest from experts to join its Technical Advisory Group on Arboviral Diseases (TAG-Arbovirus).
The multidisciplinary group will provide independent scientific, technical and strategic advice to WHO on arboviral diseases, including research priorities and approaches to prevent, prepare for and respond to arboviral threats.
About the opportunity
Arboviral diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, yellow fever and Zika represent growing public health challenges, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions.
WHO highlights the increasingly complex nature of these threats, which are influenced by ecological, climatic, economic and social factors and require expertise spanning surveillance, diagnostics, clinical care, vaccination, vector control and community engagement.
The Technical Advisory Group will support WHO by:
- Reviewing scientific, technical and strategic aspects of WHO’s work on arboviruses.
- Helping identify priorities for arbovirus research.
- Advising WHO on strategies to prevent, prepare for and respond to arboviral diseases.

WHO is seeking experts with experience relevant to arboviral diseases and public health decision-making.

Applicants should have experience applying their expertise to support public health decision-making.
What would selected experts do?
TAG-Arbovirus members will serve as independent experts and contribute to WHO’s scientific and strategic work on arboviral diseases.
The group normally meets once a year, although additional meetings may be convened, including in response to emergencies. Meetings may take place in person or virtually.
Up to 20 experts may be selected.
Important conditions
Selected experts will serve in their personal capacity and will not represent their employer, government, university, research institution or any other organization.
Applicants must be free of real, potential or apparent conflicts of interest and must complete a WHO Declaration of Interests for experts. Selected members will also be required to comply with the WHO Code of Conduct for Experts and sign a confidentiality undertaking.
This is not a salaried position. WHO states that TAG members will not be remunerated for their services, although travel and accommodation expenses associated with participation in meetings will be covered according to WHO policies.
